Training workshop on science communication for early career researchers

Delivering a training to early career researchers at UVRI, Entebbe, Uganda

Beyond the Lab: Mastering Creative Science Communication

Ready to take your research from the lab to the world? Our Science Communication Beyond Journal Publications workshop, held in February 2025 at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, was designed to help participants do just that. We delivered content that moved past traditional methods and dived into innovative, creative ways to share their work with a wider audience.

This wasn’t your average training. We guided participants through the latest theories, best practices, and trends in science communication. They learned how to build compelling narratives, create engaging content, and connect with people in meaningful ways. Through hands-on, creative sessions, they had the space to brainstorm and develop their own original science communication projects.

Our comprehensive curriculum covered everything they needed to know, from foundational concepts to advanced strategies. We explored:

  • Science engagement fundamentals

  • Leveraging social media and digital media

  • Crafting a strategic science communication plan

  • Using innovative communication tools

  • The power of storytelling to make your work relatable

  • An introduction to science communication for policy engagement

By the end of the workshop, participants were equipped to develop and execute science communication projects that captures attention, sparks interest, and builds public support for their research. Don't just publish your work—amplify it.
